Tomar

One of Portugal's best kept secrets is the town of Tomar. It is located almost at the centre of the country and has a great historic past. It was once Headquarters for the Knights Templars and later to be known as the Order of Christ.

The Convento do Cristo is a World Heritiage site and architecturally demonstrates some of the most magnificent Manueline examples to be found.

Apart from the great historic splendour the town also benefits from a large nature park set below the Convento and two town parks which run along the River Nabão.

The Tomar area has become popular with much natural beauty surrounding the area and good rail links to Lisbon.
